Mercedes Schlapp, the White House strategy director for communications has a challenging job. In her role as the White House's strategic communications advisor, Mercedes Schlapp faces a myriad of problems. Presidents can become his own director of communications. Numerous legal issues that may affect messaging strategies. Cabinet Secretaries have been involved in controversy. Schlapp has managed to stay focused and on task, working with White House teams in political affairs, legislative affairs and policy and the overall communication team. In the beginning, she has focused on school safety issues, addiction, infrastructure and international trade. In her current job she isn't in contact with many reporters. Her attention during March was when her name appeared as one of the candidates to replace Hope Hicks. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job in her role as White House's advisor on strategic communications. The White House's strategist's adviser to communications must contend various legal battles that could disrupt the messaging strategy of the administration along with Cabinet secretaries who are involved in scandals of their own. But through it all Schlapp has stayed focussed on the task at hand, working closely with White House's political affairs and legislative affairs departments and policy shops, as well with the larger communications team in order to oversee policy implementations. So far, Schlapp has concentrated on school safety concerns, addiction, infrastructure, and trade. The current position she holds doesn't require many interactions with reporters. But, back in March, her name was rumored to be a possible person who could take over Hope Hicks at the Communications Director post. The fighting has been nasty. The allies of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh started arguing with the media. Schlapp said that when that the Washington Examiner ran a story which contained negative criticisms of Sayegh she sat down for a chat with Sayegh.
